Autoimmune Thyroid Diseases

The autoimmune thyroid diseases are the most frequent among all autoimmune diseases. In the blood of patients with thyroid disease, it is possible to isolate autoantibodies which attack the gland, compromising its correct function.

Assessing the level of these antibodies is useful to recognize the basis of autoimmune thyroid disease and to distinguish them from other forms that do not affect the immune system ^1,2.
