Anthony Martin, Non-Executive Chairman
Anthony has more than 25 years' experience in life science and biotechnology businesses both in the UK and USA, in both executive and non-executive roles. He is currently Non-executive Chairman of Sphere Medical Holding plc. Wound Solutions Ltd and Phico Therapeutics Ltd.
Anthony has a Doctorate in Immunology from the University of Manchester Medical School and began his career in 1979 with Procter and Gamble before moving to Amersham International in Marketing and Business Development roles.
He has since run a number of biotechnology businesses including British Bio-Technology Products, AZUR Environmental, the Molecular Biology business of Invitrogen Corporation, and Molecular Probes Inc.
Previous Non-executive appointments include Prelude Trust plc. and Chairman of NeuTec Pharma plc. Most recently he has served as Chairman of Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals Inc. and has also served on the Boards of Invitrogen Corporation and Aligent Technologies.
Ian Cookson, Chief Executive Officer
Ian brings more than twenty years of experience gained in senior appointments within the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry both in the UK and overseas. Ian actually worked for IDS earlier in his career following his return to the UK after his time in charge of Bioclone in Australia. Ian rejoined IDS from Axis-Shield plc, where he was Managing Director of their Dundee-based Laboratory Division.
Roger Duggan PhD, Deputy Chairman and Business Development Director
Roger joined RIA (UK), the forerunner of IDS, in 1981. Within IDS, he has held the positions of Development Scientist, Laboratory Manager, and Scientific Director, becoming Managing Director following a Management Buy-Out in 1996. Following admission to AIM in 2004 and the subsequent acquisitions of Nordic Bioscience Diagnostics and Biocode-Hycel in 2007, he became Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the IDS Group. In October 2010, as part of his succession plan, Roger became Deputy Chairman and Business Development Director and Ian Cookson stepped into the CEO role. Roger also sits on the boards of PeriNatal Diagnostics Limited, PalindromX Limited and Pyrronostics Limited.
Martha Louise Garrity PhD, Technical Director
Martha joined IDS in February 2007, after eleven years in Research and Development at Nichols Institute Diagnostics as a Senior Scientist, Manager and Director. She was a key member of the team created to convert the established immunoassays of NID into fully-automated formats for the Nichols Advantage. At NID she contributed to the development and launch of automated specialty assays in the areas of bone, growth, thyroid, and hypertension, and gained expertise in chemiluminescent labels and magnetic particles, which are the specific technologies to be employed by IDS in the automation of its unique range of bone and skeletal biomarkers.
Paul Hailes FCCA, Finance Director
Paul gained experience with Bowater plc and Courtaulds plc before joining IDS in February 1993. Paul is also a Director and/or Company Secretary in PeriNatal Diagnostics Limited, PalindromX Limited, Pyrronostics Limited, Briefvision Limited and Phabia Limited.
Alain Rousseau, Engineering Director
Alain gained his experience in both the high-tech sensors and automotive industries before turning his skills to the in vitro diagnostics market. He has filed for over 30 patents in these areas over the course of his career. As Head of Instrumentation for the well-known Diagnostica Stago, he created and developed the production of the entire instrumentation product line. Alain joined Biocode Hycel in mid 2003 as CEO, to develop a new innovative and multidisciplinary platform which is now the 3X3 automated system. As part of the Biocode acquisition, Alain joins the IDS Board to drive automation manufacture and system design going forward.
Eddie Blair PhD, Non-Executive Director
Following a research career in virology at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research (Mill Hill, London) and the University of California (Irvine CA, US), Eddie spent fifteen years in the pharmaceutical industry and held the positions of Programme Leader in Virology then later Clinical Therapeutic Adviser to the Predictive Medicine Group at GlaxoWellcome, before becoming a director of clinical diagnostics at GlaxoSmithKline plc. He is currently a director of Integrated Medicines Limited.
Patrik Dahlen, Non-Executive Director
Dr. Dahlen has over twenty years experience in the diagnostic and life science industry. He became Chief Executive Officer of Neurosearch, a Denmark based biotech company listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange, in September 2010.Previously Patrik was CEO of Chempaq A/S, a Point of Care diagnostics company where he was from 2009 to 2010. Patrik was CEO of Dako A/S from 2005 to 2009, during which the company underwent a significant repositioning. Previously he was CEO of BioImage, Senior Vice President of Perkin-Elmer Inc and President of Perkin-Elmer Life Sciences. He is Chairman of Olink Biosciences and Sophion Biosciences, two private biotechs based in Scandinavia.
Roland Sackers, Non-Executive Director
Roland joined IDS in June 2011 as Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee. Roland (born 1968) is Chief Financial Officer and Managing Director of QIAGEN N.V. In this role, Mr. Sackers spearheads the creation and execution of long-term financial plans which enable the company to execute its accelerated growth strategy. This roadmap, including numerous M&A transactions, has led to strong revenue streams and significant profit growth under his tenure. Mr. Sackers earned his Diplom-Kaufmann from the Westfälische Wilhlems-Universität Münster, Germany after studying business administration. He joined the company in 1999 and has been Chief Financial Officer since 2004. In 2006, Mr. Sackers was named as a Managing Director. Prior to joining QIAGEN, he acted as an auditor with Arthur Andersen. Roland Sackers is a board member of the industry association BIO Deutschland.
Dr. Burkhard Wittek, Non-Executive Director
Dr. Wittek, holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. After working for Dresdner Bank AG he spent thirteen years with The Boston Consulting Group where he was a senior partner with worldwide responsibility for the consumer goods / retail and healthcare sectors. In 1990 he founded FORUM Family Office which makes long-term investments in German Private Equity and European Small and Midcap situations.
